Late Night Somewhere Part-2

Week 7, Feb 24 Thurs
Fallowing the class today I went to the City island park with the class. First of all this allow me to meet more people in the class outside the CLASS room. It’s nice to talk to people on subject that’s has nothing to be with works and study for a change. It is the second time I am here this semester, and last time was also at night. However, with a clear confuse and explanations by our great professor, this is far more enjoyable than the last one.  We learn many things about the seawall, basin, green root and exotic vegetation. One of the most interesting things is that I never notice those things before. The lesson on the exotic vegetation that kills and takes over the body of another tree is really interesting, and I believe we have few of those trees in the college area. It also remind me of this guy who’s body was taking by a tree and rooted him on the floor for years and in the end become more of a vegetation than human. The idea to build a green roof is really interesting, but I don’t see why it cast so much money. Many people back at my home country grow vegetation on their roof, and is not like they are rich or anything close. Perhaps if we spend all those money that’s going in to the green roof somewhere else will be more effective to the environment. In the end I really enjoy a lesion outside the classroom, and this make it the most memorable class in this semester.

Late-Lab

Week6, Feb 20 Sunday
In today’s log I am going to talk a little about the historical culture of Ringling College’s student behavior. In more specific, I am going to talk about the behavior of the Late Lab culture. I think as it is a really popular thing that most students participate, it should be consider as important as any other community study. I spend the whole weekend in lab and experiencing the so-call “Late Lab”. Late Lab is something that most the computer animation and game design major students enjoy doing. It’s basically an opportunity given by the head of the department which allow the students to stay in the 3F lab and work throughout the night. Normally the computer lab close at 12 every night, and everyone will be kick out of the lab regardless if you get the work done or not. During a Late-Lab period all the senior students are allow to stay in the lab as late as 3am in the morning! However, it is in my conclusion that most of the students will actually be more active and concentrate on their work because they have more time, and in the end produce the same amount of work as if they had to leave at 12; so because the whole late lab thing is only helping people that actually spend all their time concentrating on the work which mean normally they don’t even need the extra time to finish their work anyway. It is with my observation that I discover most of the student use those time chatting, watching Youtube funny video, playing game and etc…and I believe this is taking away people’s time to visit and explored Sarasota like what I am doing now.

Late Week Ringling tour

Week5, Feb 12 Sat
My mom and my sisters came to visit me this Wednesday. They live in Canada so it wasn’t too long of a flight. My mom wants me to take them somewhere like a museum or something, so I bring them to the famous Ringling Museum. We tour the art museum fairly fast, and spend most of the time in the circus museum. I had been here way too many times before due to classes, and had somehow long lost the interest of visiting this place. My sisters in the other hands enjoy the tour of the circus museum and find the whole place really interesting and well designed. We also took a little tour in the Ca d’ Zan Mansion. It is a really CLASSIC mansion and I believe everything in that mansion has some historical value. The view of the sea was enjoyable and the weather was perfect. To be honest there isn’t much I can say about this little visit as I had done this way too many time to feel special about it…but nonetheless the views there are still really beautiful and it always remind me of the beach scene in the Sweeney Todd movie.

Late Morning Visiting

Week4, Feb 6 Sunday
This weekend I went to the Jungle gardens with some friends who need to do some sketches. I basically tag alone just for the ride, and also I thought it will be perfect for my log. To be honest this is the first time I have ever been to the Jungle Gardens…I thought it was for little kids or something…and I turn out to be right. We went there around noon and planned to stay for two hours or so. We just caught the show for the Birds of the Rainforest, and there was a group of 12 or something with us the whole time. My first impression of the place is that it surly has lots tree and vegetation to show off, but the tour path and buildings wasn’t plan well for the visitor to fully enjoy the view. I also felt that everything there are somewhat too small for some reason…We also saw lots of different birds, but I have no idea what they are. Most of them had a color mix of red, yellow and blue like the cereal. One of the most interesting things about the Jungle Gardens was that you can buy a brick and have your name on that brick. I didn’t remember how much it was but I thought it was funny how people would want to spend money to have their name write on a brick that’s going to be step on by everyone who is visiting the place.

Late Night Ride

Week3, Jan 29 Sat
Tonight I took a late night bike ride alone the Tamiami Trail 41 to the Hyatt Regency Sarasota. I had a friend visiting here for the weekend, and as he is leaving on Sunday I decided on the last second to visit him one last time before he leave. It was around ten and the street was really empty, and this is the first time I am going to ride that far on my bike. I always heard terrible things happening to people around the bridge area, and once a taxi driver told me he was a cop before and that bridge is one of the most dangerous areas around here. I am talking about the bridge between Sylvan Dr and Panama Dr road across the Whitaker Bayou. I never know the name of that bridge, and I don’t actually care to find out.
When I was just about to cross the bridge I saw two homeless looking people laughing and jumping on the side walk of the bridge. There is no way I can pass the bridge without actually go through them and I don’t think that will be a good idea…so I stop. While I was thinking rather should I keep going or try to find another way they wave at me and say something like “Yo…yo bro got a cigarette…” or something like that, I didn’t spend the time to find out so I just turned and ride back home. So in the end I didn’t actually ride all the way to the hotel but instead I took a taxi here, and realize riding a bike all the way there will be a stupid idea…as it’s actually a really long ride and I had never notice that before. In the end I think the lesson is don’t ride a bike alone at night.

Late Night somewhere...

Week2, Jan 21 Fri
This Friday I went to the Sarasota island park, also known as the Island Park. It’s the second time I have ever been here and the last time was like three years ago. I went with some of my friends at night as one of our friend’s friends is a local and actually own a boat. We went there fairly late after the six-thirty class, and our driver had a little problem finding an empty parking spot for some reasons. The last time I was here was with my family when they came visited, but nothing felt too different. We can’t go anywhere with the boat so we just spend a little time touring the boat and walk around the park for a while. It felt really empty and lifeless with only few street lights, but it should be good for a dating spot or a quit walk with the dog. It is a fairly small park and without the boat it’s almost pointless to go visit it at night. There is a small bar/ restaurant too in the park, but none of us actually had money so we just left after an hour or so…but it was still enjoyable to say the least.
